it's just an idle thought, but I see nearly 300 visitors online tonight, with a little effort (and some judicious emailing/invites) we could EASILY get over a 1,000 of us online tonight

what say you?

I'd be up to do it next week sometime...that way we can get more people, with more notice...lol. But yeah, a good idea!

With 17 members and 248 guests apparently 'online', the last activity of some (members and guests) is as much as almost two hours ago. The real number of people, both members and guests, who are actually online is, I suspect, much lower.

Cheers,
Rob

Rob is right.

Besides, if we had 1000 people online, we would have a lot more members registered for the site to receive such traffic. Don't take my word though, Daniel can give a valid answer.

My question is why are these visitors not signing on and joining us?

hmm, the old nine hundred and eighty-three lurkers trick

ah, well, as was mentioned maybe we could start a regular Saturday Night Paaaartay. We could drink litres virtual frivolity and scoff imagined tables of speculative canapes.

and Riverstone (nice quote) but the riverstone only allows the water around him/her/it once he/she/it has had all its rough edges rubbed off by a million-tonne glacier for thousands of years. Etc...

Maybe they have signed up, but have simply forgotten their usernames... or that they haven't logged in yet.

Or maybe they're pending members. When one signs up, they receive a confirmation link for account activation - maybe they didn't activate their account yet.

Maybe they're not unique guest visitors. I know on my forum when I check the online guests sometimes a single guest will show up multiple times due to their IP address varying while they're browsing, and some search engine bots appear to do this, so a single search bot can look like up to a dozen guests.

Cheers,
Rob

That's what I always thought the 'guests' were - search engine bots or net-spiders

I'm sure some of them will be real people, perhaps many. Anyone who finds the site but isn't a member, or is a member but isn't logged in, will appear as a guest.

Cheers,
Rob

I have repeatedly invited y'all to a teamspeak party but you are very slow to show!
