Default Where Do Dreams Grow? by Alaria

Where Do Dreams Grow?

Does anyone know where dreams grow?
In rows amongst Heaven's heart?
Do you know how to extinguish
the dragon's fiery breath?

Can you see the hand
that wipes away the
child's tear?

How do you guard against the hand
that takes up the bloody sword?
Are we the dragon
that burns with eternal hate?

Where is the hand
to wipe away the childs tear?
Was it ever even there?

Please tell me why
we all fail to hear
the young child cry?
I wonder, where do dreams grow?

Alaria

I am a very on-the-surface direct kind of poetry appreciator. I usually search for the message first and then go back to look at the structure and execution. I like the way this poem came full circle ending with the beginning but I haven't been able to find a clear message here yet. My very literal mind wants to find the meaning of the dragon, fire, and sword metaphors but I wasn't able to.

I like the style and will check your future work.

Very interesting methapors here, as Gary stated. I couldn't find "meaning" behind them - compared to dreams - other than the hatred and tears to nightmares- like why we get them over dreams sometimes. However, I could be completely off base. I liked it, not too bad, fairly straight forward and simple. Nicely done.

This is one of my older and favorite pieces of work but I've always found it to be lacking something.
At the time I wrote it I was questioning society and individuals, the way they intend to help or make things right, but in the end are making a bigger mess of things.

In the first verse I was asking where the dreams went, how can we fight against those evils in society that steal our dreams away?
The second verse questions where the shelter is who is there to comfort?
The third verse raises the question of whether or not it is inside of each of us as individuals.
The fourth questions if there ever was any external comfort or help.
The fifth and final verse asks why we turn a deaf ear on the evils in our world and so often ignore the simple things like our dreams.

I hope that I'm making sense of this. Any suggestions on how I could make it more clear are well recieved.
Thanks for the comments !

Looking at it that way, it does make much sense (to me imo) so I wouldn't change too much. Maybe more descriptive adjectives maybe? I don't know, when you showed me what it meant, it made sense, so I don't know how to exactly elude on making it easier to understand.
