The English Patient - I saw the film first - twice, I think, before I picked up the book.

It's not a casual read - fairly heavy going and possibly hard to follow if you don't have the film as a compass.

Loved the film for its cinematography, visual beauty and extremely touching scenes between Binoche and both the Indian soldier and her patient.

Amazing film - but I think it ruined the book for me.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned The Wizard of Oz. The movie was better than the book. The book was crap though.

My mom read to me a lot. That's one of the few books she said we didn't have to finish.
