Default Rainbows Lawn

My friend runs an animal rescue, a dog they fought for weeks to pull from the pound, sadly died from kennel cough a few days after she succeeded, shes heartbroken, and I wrote this for her, I don't usually write poetry (i.e never) and wanted it perfect before I send it to her, and feedback very welcome

If I had one last moment, a lasting breath
I’d show my thanks, with a sniff and a kiss
For saving my dignity, restoring my faith
Something to hold, as my heart starts to miss

Your love I could feel, your touch was pure
A scent that gave me hope, your hand was warm
Your attempts to make me whole, to find my home
Don’t cry now, I run free on Rainbows Lawn

You rescued me, as you so often do
A soft bed for me waited, as I readied to depart
I heard those gentle voices, who told me I was safe
Thank you, I will live forever in your heart

I lost my dog a year + ago, and this is very heartbreaking for me.
You've given us a different perception and I think you were truthful with this.

If you want more inspiration then I suggest this link:

Good read.

They are indeed. Nothing can replace them.
My advice is, if you wish for another dog, get another breed as you'll learn different things from that breed, instead of comparing how your last one was.
Keep going strong! Many more dogs out there that needs homes.

Some things we just have absolutely no control over.
I always try and look at it as in...they're way better off now.
No suffering, no pain, and always there with you no matter what.

Keep up the work, we need more like you!

Send it to her!! You would be barking mad not to. It's a really, really affectionate piece, what you've written may be the only thing your friend can hold on to in years to come that reminds her utterly of that short-lived wee dog she once loved. Beautiful.
Compliments.
