Submissions
We are no longer accepting submissions for our Spring 2006 Issue
(We accept submissions on an ongoing basis for future editions.)
Please send submissions to:
Words and Pictures Magazine
9805 NE 116th St., Box A-139 , Kirkland, WA 98034
Online submissions accepted and encouraged, as noted below.
Literature:
We welcome all
submissions, and encourage individual expression
in all genres. Online submissions for written pieces will be
accepted in Word format; please send as an attachment to:
editorial@wordsandpicturesmag.com
For fiction, nonfiction, essays, etc., please send works up to 2500
words. We will consider longer pieces with a query before
submitting.
For poetry, we prefer 1000 words or less, with a maximum of 5
poems per submission. We seek keen, intelligent, and thoughtful
work. Feel free to send all poetic styles and formats.
Commentary may take many forms, including essays, opinion
pieces, journalistic endeavors, research reports, etc. Please limit
your pieces to 1500 words, unless you query first. Keep in mind that
we are looking for intelligence and/or passion over obvious
agendas. We welcome your viewpoints, and appreciate your
respect for others. We will accept pieces that deal with current
issues, create social awareness, forge cultural connections, etc.
Religious and philosophical approaches are welcome, but please
show intelligent and informed points of view.
Letters and Theme Responses should be no more than 700 words,
and preferably less. We want to hear from you!
Please provide a SASE if you want your submissions returned.
Submissions without SASE will not be opened or acknowledged.
Even if you do not want your manuscripts returned, please include
a stamped envelope for our response. We try to respond within 8
weeks, but will sometimes take more - or less - time.
ART:
Visual Arts play a big role in how we perceive
the world around us, and we will consider
any representation, in any artistic form. Send
artwork of all mediums and subject matter,
including photography.
For art submissions, we accept digital files
via CD Rom or online (see below), or by
various printed forms: photographs, slides,
tearsheets, postcards, photocopies, etc.
Please DO NOT SEND ORIGINALS. We will
return your submissions with an SASE, but
we accept no responsibility for their care,
receipt, or return.
FOR DIGITAL SUBMISSIONS: Please send
digital images on CD Rom or via the internet.
If submitting online, please send a URL
(website address) where we can view your
work. It need not be a professional site; we
only want to see the piece you are
submitting, not your entire collection of
works. So, feel free to put your submission
on a HomePage through your internet
provider (for example, AOL's free Hometown
pages). E-Mail attachments of visual art are
okay, as long as they contain NO VIRUSES
(please do a virus scan before sending
them!) and if the files are either JPEG, PSD,
or PDF formats.
