Default The Elements of Style

I thought that every writer should get the chance to read this book: The Elements of Style by William Strunk Jr. and E.B. White.
I believe it is a very helpful book and will help many writers with their climb to the writing career ladder.

My Igra character, Mr. Jibbons, was roughly 1/4 inspired by Wilbur.

As for the subject at hand, though, I've heard great things about that book.

A delightfully helpful book. So is On Writing by Stephen King. As well I'd recommend to anyone Writing Dialogue by Tom Chiarella.

Very useful I do agree. The Elements of Style has come out with more volumes and has fine tuned itself over the years. I do hope Stephen Does the same On Writing with some of his helpful tips. That sounds like an odd request.

The first run of The Elements of Style was self published by the author. Since then it has sold millions of copies and is still used as writing text in various universities as well as many high schools. William Strunk, the original author, owed much of the text to writer and teacher E.B. White. E.B. White was best known for his book titled; Stuart Little. It is a terrific tale for young and older alike. A literary classic.

E.B. White also did Charlotte's Web: another classic. I definitely need to read The Elements of Style. I have On Writing and love it. Anne Lamott's Bird by Bird is another good one, particularly when you're feeling a little down.

Absolutely. I whole heatedly agree.

Maybe I should have called this thread: Writing Recommended. Do others have any other books that may help with writing?

Its good that there are updated versions of it. Language has a way of evolving over time. The original probably isn't totally relevant anymore.

I have the Fiftieth Anniversary Edition. I like to call it my, medium size black book of helpfulness.

I haven't read On Writing or The Elements of Style, but I have read a couple of other technical books like that in college writing courses: The Art of Fiction, by John Gardner, The Poet's Companion by Kim Addonizio and Dorianne Laux and The Mind's Eye by Kevin Clark (for poetry). These are all very good, useful books that have helped me with my writing; I highly recommend them.
