I've researched just about any and everything I can think of and I'm still researching. I've tried to gather information from the clothes they wear, the food they eat (and how they acquire it), the way the speak, the things they do for entertainment, even their 'torture devices' and the list just goes on. Whenever I'm writing and something comes up which i think I should know more about, I try to get that information. The only tool I use is google. You get an abundance of information... more than you can even handle. Sometimes I'm researching one thing and it becomes so interesting that I search deeper and go way off topic but it's always fun.
For my romance novel I've got too much research to do because I've incorporated gypsies and spainards and pirates so it's really become alot to deal with but the research is just so fun! Currently I'm researching on Medieval period and I've found some interesting sites which have all the little details I need.
Also very importantly, I've read lots of books that are set in those times and when the writers are as great at writing as the ones I read, you're actually there with the characters so you feel like you're experiencing everything that is happening. So when I try to write my own, I already have an idea how of what the scene looks like.
Are you writing somthing in that time frame?
