Default When Poets Cry

When people cry they feel relief
Their pain is washed away
Tears may comfort the sting of grief
Or a feeling of dismay

A poet's tears are different indeed
For they form into a word
An ever growing poetic seed
A feeling that can't be heard

The paper becomes the poet's sleeve
As they wipe their tears away
Their words will form an intricate weave
Deciding what they'll say

Each teardrop has a life of its own
As it trickles down their cheek
It stains the paper, their seeds are sown
Their tears begin to speak

So listen close when poets cry
Though it barely makes a sound
You'll hear a soft and tender sigh
When all their words are found

I am a poet at heart and nearly cried, but real tears. You write so beautifully, so descriptive, so real. And yes you are right, this is exactly what happens when poets cry, we write. I cannot tell you how many poems I have written to express the way I feel I that I could not cry about or talk about, but only made sense in words. I am a big, big fan of yours. Thanks so much for this. I wonder if I can use it in a book I am writing. It is so beautiful, I love it.

I really like this, I think the last two verses are the strongest - absolutely beautiful.
The first three didn't quite have the same 'hook' I felt, but I can't really explain why. Although, to contradict myself, I loved -

The paper becomes the poet's sleeve
As they wipe their tears away

A lovely poem written superbly
The poet has a rhyming sense
His ideas are smartly narrated
Hats off to this poet with love.

Truer words have never been spoken about "the poet behind the poem"... I'm compelled to agree.
