Default Help me nickname Satan

In my novel one of the main characters is a demon. Her Boss as I've been calling him is Satan, but I want her to be able to call him something solid when she is speaking directly to him. Since he's been introduced to the story, which is what I'm working on right now, she's called him "Your Grace" but it only sounds good once or twice. I don't want to use one of his conventional names I want something LIKE 'Your Grace' but not that. She'll refer to him as her Boss sometimes but I don't feel like that's the right name for every instance...

What can anyone suggest? Thanks for the thought.

I feel that I should add I'm running with the idea that Satan is worshipped in a "Godly" way in his kingdom, so no names like "O-Repugnant-One" will suffice.

Lucifer, Morning Star; probably not what you're looking for but if you have a "Satan" figure go through his names and what he's called in the Bible. Look them up in different languages, play with the words a little. All else fails, symbolism is always fun.

Symbolism in what way? I think that may be more what I'm leaning toward anyway. I don't want to use any of his ACTUAL name variants.

Think about how we use titles in real life. "Your Highness," or "Your Majesty." You'll notice we address people by some attribute (highness, majesty, holiness, etc.). Does Satan have a particular attribute by which he'd like to be referred? Something like "Your Abhorrence," or "Your Viciousness"? (This is similar to your idea of "Your Grace," just with a title perhaps more fitting).

Master or Lord might work too. I'd also suggest thumbing through Milton's Paradise Lost. I haven't read it for a while, but I'd bet there are some unconventional titles for Satan in there.

"My lord" or "my liege" are both good ruler addresses, without being over-the-top. I'd pick one of those.

What does _your_ Satan look like? What is _your_ Satan like? Is he fatherly, bitterly, motherly, crazy, evil'ly. Is he red, is he brown, is he yellow, is he green. Does he have horns, wings, a tail, what's he look like? What's he 'like'? That might change how people address him.

How about Lucifer, only a bit diminutive. "Lucy".

I've always been partial to "Abaddon".

I haven't had to think about how he looks as himself yet because I don't know that you'll see him. He possesses humans when traveling to Earth so he appears as a stranger they've met along the way or whatnot.

His personality though is interesting.. He's ruthless of course but slightly humorous, he's also pretty sexual. It's like he just knows he's so big and bad that he doesn't have to constantly ACT like it. I would say he's cocky though. I like Lord, that's a great one! I am writing things so that he is worshipped by his followers the way God is, so it's a more dark-holy experience instead of downright EVIL.. but it still IS evil.. I'm not sure how to explain it at the moment

Thanks for the suggestions you guys.

Ooh, Abaddon sounds fantastic! I've never heard of it before but I'm looking it up now.

If you want to go a bit more medieval, there's also Apollyon!

You could call him "Olly"

I saw that one too while looking up Abaddon! Abaddon is perfect, doesn't exactly roll off the tongue but the meaning of my character names is really important and that one is just right on.

Apollyon is a corruption of the name Apollo... Apollo, isn't, and never was, a demon... He was a roman God...

.... Oh! hell, and demons, oh my!

google "lemegeton", or "clavicula solomonis"

You're gonna have to spell this one out for me sammo, I am not getting the relevance of the names.

Strictly speaking, Apollo was a Greek god. The Romans just pinched him

Lin: your mother!

And yes, I just wrote a fab short about him and actually he's not that bad - I call him 'Big Red'

Edit: serious about the short and the name!

the lemegeton, or clavicula solomonis, is more usually known as " the key of solomon". It's an entry-level occult type text, and, within it, you will find lists and lists of demon names...

Lucifer has always been my favorite. Not very original though. I named my bestest cat in whole wide world Lucifer.

Stop spamming, kiddies.

I say Oh-Great/Diminutive-Evil-Power-Whose-Name-Will-Strike-Fear-Or-None-Really-At-All-And-Can-Only-Really-Pose-Much-Threat-If-Someone-Believes-In-Them-In-The-First-Place.

Now that's a tongue twister.

Lol, I love Stan..

I really like Big Red actually, but I won't use your name. Abaddon was perfect until I went to actually write it down on paper, I just don't know how to go about making that one work. I used Lucifer I guess that and Lord will have to do for the time being.
