Default All Our Heroes

Penny Dreadful, holy shit! All our childhood monsters in one show! Sex, violence, nudity, gore and so much more to enjoy.

Frankenstein likes to spout poetry and his female counterpart likes her sex cowboy style while choking her temporary partner to death. It's a love story for the ages.

Dorian Gray is a bi-sexual and even the Werewolf jumped that fence at least once. I like the pasty white bald headed chick that can disappear into a mirror. She's hot.

Dracula just arrived and found himself an unwilling Renfro to do his bidding and even Dr. Jekyll has made an appearance. Yup the gang is all here and the shit is going to get deep.

It's good mindless entertainment.

If Abbot and Costello make an appearance, I'm going to lose my mind.

Definitely. I love it, just about to start watching season 3. Though, I'm wondering how many more seasons of trauma Vanessa Ives can take lol.

I actually just saw the preview for this show, and it does look decent. First, I thought you were advertising a new novel you finished Gaines.

Thanks.

Shoot. No movie channels here. I'll have to see if Netflix has the first season. Or search it for a possible chromecast stream.

Hulu tells me it's on Showtime.

It looks like a kind of lighter entertainment to me, not really mindless. I think the truly mindless are things like Duck Dynasty or the Kardashians etc.

It's a sweet spot that's hard to hit. You've got heavy, sometimes fairly complex dramas on one end and comedies on the other. There's not much in the middle—clever but not very demanding dramas that you can watch just to relax or clear you head. I might have to check this one out.

Yeah, I'm pretty cheap. I never wanted to pay for movie channels. We used to watch most of the movie channel series like "The Sopranos" on DVDs from the library. Then a few years ago we got a call from the cable provider offering a year of free HBO and Showtime. Same strategy as my old dope dealer—they figure once you're hooked you'll want to pay. I'm thinking that was almost 4 years ago, and they still aren't charging us. I figured for once, I'll let their inefficiency work in my favor.

You lucky dog. Really surprising they haven't caught that yet, Binx.

I recently picked up a chromecast and have found a decent free movie/tv show app for the phone called Cinemabox. Seems to be a better selection than Netflix.

And guess what, Gaines? Yes, Penny Dreadful is available on the app! Season 1, 2 and the first two episodes in season 3.

Now that I think about it, we haven't watched the premium channels very much. We watched Boardwalk Empire and Louis C.K.'s show on HBO, and Nurse Jackie on Showtime. That's pretty much it. And I think you can get most of the programming later on Netflix and Amazon, so really, no big loss when and if they cut me off.

We may cut the cable before that anyway. I think we're mainly holding on because of college football on ESPN, especially the SEC network. There might even be a way to watch it now, but I haven't taken the time to look into it.

Yeah, I rate it alongside Ripper Street, which is another Victorian London set drama about the police in the aftermath of the Jack the Ripper era. Really atmospheric and well put together with excellent characters and interesting storylines. A bit cheesy and implausible at times, like Penny Dreadful, but thats deliberate so it works really well. Definitely check it out if you can
