Default Expansion on general discussion area

I think that the staff could expand the general discussion area. While some of us are writers, we also watch television shows, play video games, or have other hobbies.
Just having "The Writer's Cafe" doesn't make the place fully welcoming for non-writers as well.

And there are a large number of topics in "The Writer's Cafe" too, so it would improve organization as well. For some of us, it allows the potential for more new topics. Even if it starts out with just having a "multimedia" area, that works.

Should The Writer's Beat be fully welcoming for non-writers? The forum was designed primarily as a place for writers to share work and congregate, after all. I'm sure there are other forums tailored more for recreational discussion.

I find that the Intellectual Table allows us to comment on just about any subject.

WritersBeat is for writers-hence the name-I'm sorry, but you got to find another place to discuss such topics.

I concur with the other responses. As a writer, I'm here to get feedback, specifically from those who are engaged in the writing process themselves and are able to offer constructive criticism. I think there's too much off-topic content as it is, usually politics and religion under the thinly-veiled excuse of "I'm writing here". There's a thin line between writing and ranting. Throw other topics into the mix and its chaos.

It's always the 14 year old newbie that thinks that the site is deficient because it doesn't have a crèche.

Being VERY new here, I was wondering... is it taboo to talk about other topics? I mean, yes, I'm here - like others - to discuss writing. But does that mean there's no room for talking about other items of general interests among writers? Truly wondering. Not trying to be facetious.

It's cool to discuss "other topics", Dee. The Writers' Café or Intellectual Table is a good place to throw out some feelings on a subject. Let us know what your thinking about.

I think that a place for discussion is here enough. Missing me the space to specific, targeted social communication between individuals. Maybe even interested in her.

I feel that a different have I need. I'm trying to find someone to collaborate on a specific book, but so far to no avail. Discussion on how to write a book may be of interest, but I'm interested in it, who want write with me the facts.
Email can I add here, so book that already exists in another language will be perhaps and in English until someone finds me.

would you really want to change the site from it being primarily being about writing

more idle chatting
what for

I love this comment....

" I think there's too much off-topic content as it is, usually politics and religion under the thinly-veiled excuse of "I'm writing here". There's a thin line between writing and ranting. Throw other topics into the mix and its chaos."

As if the act of writing is tidy
Why is writing about politics and religion off course,
seems absolutely relevant to mans position in time
to ignore the possibilities which they bring to the head is to rip off the mind

ranting my ass

at any rate this site is being set up for a troll invasion, seen the trolls in fiction already so now unsuspecting writers will be clobbered by people who specialize in making trouble
it is incredible weak that is how people entertain themselves ...trolling

what they want to do is flood the site with new people simultaneously creating a confusing environment, disrupting the natural flow, finding the strong willed and then going after them in force.

I smell them like a dog smells rats
beware the trolls are here

Perhaps we should do a site-wide purge then? Would that satisfy the membership? *glances round* All righty . . . what if one of those whom we purge happens to be yourself? (Mind, now, I'm speaking to everyone here, not targeting one person.) Who'd find that fair or unfair? . . . Just asking . . .

Default Troll Torture

Ignore the trolls. They crave recognition more than anything. Ignoring them, not responding to their blather, and you will heap burning coals of vengeance on them.
