I think to properly write for something like that I'd have to do a ton of research, because otherwise I wouldn't be happy with the finished product...

Exactly. We've read books from amazing authors that contain the stuff that interests us so much, and ofcourse if we choose to write about that same stuff, we'd want it to be just as good as those amazing authors, but they've had tons of experience in that field.

We just have to stick to what we know lol

Hi Jennyr,

You've commented on some of my stuff, but I don't belive I have actually said a formal 'Hello'.

If the spelling is off on this that's because my cat is between me and the monitor and I am typing blind!

I too love writing fantasy, though paranormal romance in my thing (both reading and writing). I try to avoid vampires though except as secondary characters or fight fodder because everyone seems to be doing them.

Although Vampire Lore is a passion of mine.

Anyway a big HELLO from me

I feel that vampires as a species deserve a break. They have been in more stories than Samuel L Jackson has been in movies.

I don't think I've ever read any sci fi stuff, I'm one of those people whose scared of their own shadow

I write fiction, my main love is thrillers but when I'm stuck there, I try my hand at historical romance.

I thought I've become old news already and this thread would be dead by now, imagine my surprise

Thank you for the big hello and if you're spelling is off, I wouldn't notice since I'm doing the hardest job ever right now: tidying up my closet which always looks like a hurricane hit it

Yea I love reading paranormal stuff but I don't think I have what it takes to write it. You're right, everybody does seem to be writing about vampires! When it comes to my writing I like originality so I hear you on that.

I wouldn't do historical fiction, 'cos I'd get obsessive about the little details and spend all my time researching... Same with crime fiction...

Quite, some of my characters are historical figures granted immortality and I spend all my time with time lines and wikkipedia trying to get things acceptably right.

So I echo Indigo

You have to be careful with him he takes everything anyway and usually the wrong way, I've taken to issusing innuendo disclaimers with most of my replies to him

(discaimer for "he takes everything anyway")

I genuinely mean this in the literal sense.

I prefer to watch a ferile looking man swinging a sword and killing his enemy in a movie than I do to see a skinny arsed idiot with a big gun shoot someone.

I am all for honour and valour and courage - I should have been born about 1,000 years ago. Serious

Sorry, I thought you said a fertile man for a moment there

and if you lived 1000 years ago, you'd probably already be dead. And my ancestors would be beating the crap out of you at Hastings

I know the feeling man, but honour is not dead and courage is still something to live by. There aren't enough honourable people in this world.

It's quite ironic because when I was stuck with my thriller, I thought I'd do a historical romance cause it would be a piece of cake... no research necessary. Boy was I wrong! I ended up on the internet alot researching every little tidbit I could think of.

You'd think so but what do you think of a person who would never look under their bed when its dark? They just prefer to think 'under the bed' doesn't exist.

I used to wonder why writers (the really extraordinary ones) are paid so much to put words on paper. Now I know...
