Icon6 Short Story Writers Wanted Desperately

Hi my name is Jules and I am new here. I hope this isn't seen as advertising but more encouraging the art of short story writing.

In my third year of my degree in English and Creative Writing (BA HONS), I set up a publishing company. This is the only website and company that sells short stories by download. Authors receive any money for their productions directly into their paypal account from the buyer, and all short stories are automatically downloaded by the buyer after purchase.

The site is free to join and post your stories up for sale in the store - the work must be your own and you have to price the work yourself. We can set your advert up etc with a cover design for a small fee if you prefer, again any purchase of your story is remunerated to you directly from the buyer, we take NO commission.

If you wish to sell more than two short stories then you have to pay a monthly sub of ten dollars, this pro account allows you to sell as many short stories as you wish.

We ask that you store your PDF file on our secure server (not mandatory) and ask a 0.75 cent (USA) fee for this. The url of the file is what you put into your advert in the store so the programme can give it to the buyer after purchase.

Short stories must be in PDF format (we can do this for you) from any file.

Having just finished my GDL (Graduate Diploma in Law) this year, and about to start my LPC (Legal Practice Course) in September, I can give free advice on how to protect your work in your descriptions. You must make clear to the buyer any restrictions that you might have in regards to the use of your work. It is advisable to put your terms on a separate file such as a notepad and wrap both the PDF and terms file in a ZIP for download.

The market for short stories is also for trade. We will be supplying magazines with FILLERS - ie a short story or piece that a magazine might want to buy to fill space in their publication. You should highlight your price either as a filler or a non publishable short story download in your descriptions so the buyer is clear and your work is protected. i can help you here if you need it for free.

If you are interested in making some real money from writing then please visit the link on my profile to my site.

Many Regards
Jules

My spider senses start tingling anytime someone wants money to publish or sell anything. Personally, I'll take a pass.

Seems to be quite a few people setting up similar schemes lately. Must be money in it - for them. As for myself, I'll stick with sending my work to magazines, so no thanks.

Wow! How could anyone pass up a deal like this? I am amazed at the level of skepticism around here. Why, just the other day I bought two acres of beach front property in Billings Montana. It was a sweet online deal that only cost me 5K. I should be getting the deed in the mail in four to six weeks. That's when the Billings County Clerk office will be back up and running once the summer vacations are over.

I dont think you read the post did you. How can you expect anyone to read your writing...?

Please read the post and inform me as to where there is any charge to sell your work - other than if you open a pro account which has a WHOPPING $10 monthly subscription attached to it. A pro account is if you want to sell an UNLIMITED number of short stories...!

The free account allows you to sell upto three (I wrote two above ^^ but its actually three) short stories which you can delete and change as many times as you wish...!

Michael Moorcock once informed me that 'Your own decision is always your best', so im not going to attempt to convince you otherwise, if you have made your mind up in yourself already, then as above its probably the best option for YOU.

Please just read the post though, I know you dont have a degree in English, so comprehension maybe somewhat at a loss, but please try..!

Oh yes I don't edit your work either unless you pay me to..!

All the best.
Regards
Jules

Outstanding. You have an excellent sales pitch. Insult people, that will draw them to your site. Your post looks suspect for a couple reasons.
  1. Your nick. jules12345, very spam-like (sorry if that doesn't fit your superior english aptitude.) I get emails all the time from rhonda45678 or jimmy234 who either want me to buy viagra or rolex watches.
  2. Your entire post reminds me of the slap chop guy (Vince?) from television. We'll send you a free slap chop, all you pay is shipping and handling. Please don't say. "You're gonna love my nuts"
Sorry Jules, but there are lots of people out there making these kinds of pitches and just because you're throwing around degrees doesn't make your offer any less suspect. In fact, it actually makes you look even more like a shyster.

So whatever. People can judge for themselves, but if you are going to get anywhere with your virtual publishing business you might want to rethink your approach.

Cheers
M

There should have a question mark (?) at the end of your first sentence in your last post there Jules. And you're offering editing services? Really?

It's not that anyone doubts the voracity; (cool word, huh?) of your statements, but it is more like most of us know when we are getting close to the barn. It's the smell Jules. That distinct aroma of bullshit. But hey, you might be legit, even though saying you are studying to be a lawyer automatically makes you suspect.

Here's a bit of free business advice. Never show your temper when you are trying to hose the public. People don't like giving money to a petulant twit. That is unless you are a televangelist. I was ready to send you ten bucks until you got snippy. Now you're just going to have to catch the next ambulance that comes by. Run Forrest run.

I did read your post but am still not interested. My stories are submitted directly to magazines, and I match each story with a suitable publication based on genre. Seems a pretty simple way to do it, and is far more appealing that looking at my work as 'filler' material to bulk up some publication that's incapable of getting direct submissions. It doesn't cost me $10 a month for no guaranteed return; there are no extra charges for storage on someone's server, cover design, or editing by someone whose grasp of English is not equal to mine.

Rereading your original post, I note you say, "The market for short stories is also for trade," but that is the only reference to your target market. For all the talk of money, there is nothing about who will be accessing your site and buying stories. If stories are being sold as one-offs to individuals, how much is anyone going to pay to read a single short story? There are plenty of short story magazines and e-zines, for sale or free, so why would anyone pay for the privilege of reading a single story? From the writer's perspective, why would I want to sell my story to a single person, when I could be published in a magazine or e-zine where my work will be read by hundreds or thousands of people?

Your proposal may be genuine, but it just doesn't add up for me.

I don't think Jules has a degree in anything. If I had to guess, English is his second language via Google Translator. I mean, he's offering editing services, but demonstrates a total lack of comprehension of grammar and punctuation. Nobody offering editing services finishes a sentence with "...!" and certainly not with the frequency that Jules12345 does.

It's a scam. I'm guessing "Jules" lives in Ghana or something. There's probably a hundred of these rackets that all look alike.

Since he's worried that it won't count as advertising in the section that says it is for advertising, it calls into question his own comprehension hand attention to detail. Attention to detail is an essential skill as an editor.

Full stop after "though." Apostrophe missing from the word "don't." "Maybe somewhat at a loss": "may be" must be two words.

I don't have a degree in English, but if you do you should sure as fuck ask for your money back.

Pete

It's a perfectly reasonable idea for a site; if I was doing it, I would fund the site via google ads and, possibly, advertisements added directly into the .pdf.

Rotflmfao. Also: 'so comprehension maybe somewhat at a loss' makes no sense whatsoever.

How about this? 'I refer you to my earlier post. I understand that you do not have a degree in English, and so your comprehension of the English language may be somewhat inferior to my own.' etc.

And, no I don't have a degree, but I do have a Diploma in Literature and Creative Writing, which entitles me to be a fucking smug bastard.

I think we scared this person off again. You know one day, when we get a genuine offer on here we're gonna be sorry...

I suppose people take the genuine offers of long-term members a bit more seriously. I've posted on a forum I just joined before and had responses from it though; you just have to be a bit more open about what you're doing and don't pretend to be someone you're not (eg, literate).

No, it's not. You're one of thousands. 99% of which, like yourselves, never sell anything.
