Alex, here me out. If you think King's characters are bland, and you're interested in giving him another try, read his The Dark Tower series. Some people find the first book hard to digest, but I swear to you, if you can get past the first book (I liked it, actually) you'll fall in love with the characters and the multiple perspectives.
The books include several genres, including horror and fantasy, to name a few. It's very dark as well. I think you'll enjoy them.

Sweet.
Also, reading through the beginning posts of this thread... I realize that I'm the one who brought up the drug/alcohol argument, which then in turn brought up the Stephen King argument. Dammit...

Like I said before, you can be rather combative when presenting your opinion. Right from the start.
These quotes made me think of an old saying - If everyone else is the problem, maybe you're the problem. Another one - You can't point one finger at someone else unless you're pointing the other four at yourself.
Don't get me wrong. I understand about bipolar, and I have empathy for what that must put you through. I'm really hoping to offer this as constructive feedback for you. If you're having a hard time with all the forums you go to, maybe you should take a look at your presentation. That's all I'm saying.
I do not want to become part of this argument - in fact I won't. I probably will not comment anymore, no matter what your reaction is. I'm just offering an observation, and will back out from here.
Good luck to you! I hope this helps.

I'll be adding them to my list of books to read as well. I have a renewed interest in King since I read On Writing. I'm a huge fantasy fan, and I like dark stories. Thanks for the tip.

I understand. I'm socially not the best customer in the world. I don't have a lot of experience socially interacting with people.
So I either say awkward things that make no sense. Or I say things that make it sound like I'm fighting with everyone.
Text doesn't help with tone. And sometimes I don't know how to emotionally gage where someone is coming from.

I think I should make it clear that nobody here is trying to convert you to Stephen King. I know plenty of people who can't stand him, and there have been countless critics who think he's a hack. I wasn't trying to disprove that. If you don't like him, you don't like him, and your opinion is perfectly valid. That's never what this was about.

Okay truth is. This is going to sound so damn weird. I'm not even sure what I was angry about.
I was just ramming through people.
Like road rage without an underline cause. heh

Well, good. I can see that. And you're sooooo right that text doesn't help with tone. That's something that anyone visiting this site should be studying until the day they die - or stop writing, haha.
Cheers!

They should make a computer that deciphers tone due to the user's heart rate.

Alex, since you seem to know what sets you off, have you considered that internet forums aren't the best place for you? Consider that you've have several arguments with several people in several different threads, been put on the ignore lists of at least one or two members, publicly apologized for being a jerk, and now have just admitted that you were out of line again in yet another thread.
All of this, and you've been here less than a month.
I'm not saying you should go, but have you considered it?
Oh, and you don't seem very open to critique when you post your stories. Every time someone offers some, you have an answer for why it shouldn't change, or it wasn't a stylistic error or anything. If you're not open to it, why are you even bothering?

I don't do it always. I had thought Abby was up for discussing things with me. Me and Abby have discussed before and together in PMs.
And I am not putting arguments of why it shouldn't be change, just to show my thinking. So I can compare thoughts and ideas.
I mean critique is just critique. We can take as we like from it. I am very open to critique. But I also like discussing pieces.
It's how I brainstorm and run thoughts around.
That's how I work. That's how I get ideas in my head. And how I understand their thoughts.
No Forums are good. It's usually certain aspects of people that set me off mainly more than the forum itself.
I'm trying to rehabilitate myself, as I have said before I don't have that much social interaction and training to socialize with people.
And really it's just been a bad week:
-Monday lost my motorcycle keys
-Tuesday found out my GF can't talk to me cause her mom doesn't want us to talk
-Wednesday the group member we needed to finish our presentation walks off and leaves us. So now we have to do their work.
-Thursday GF situation has left me feeling all emotions at once in a double whammy slap of heighten emotions.
Mixture of not getting enough sleep because of the bad week. And you have a very very grumpy me.

Music inspires me. Depending on what type of song I'm listening to the attitude of my work will reflect that.
Other times my stories reflect on me. Earlier today I was thinking about a scene to come for my story, and the character is really sad. For some odd reason, I wanted to cry (and I haven't cried in yeeaarrss), so I opened the word processor and typed until that sad feeling went away. Sadly, it went away before I finished the scene. I had to stop.
As I mentioned in another thread, I tend to act stuff out. I could be walking down the street, then suddenly take of running because I had an image of a character who was running. I really have to watch what I think about when I walk.

I'm sorry about your bad week, Alex. Hopefully life gets better for you.
I haven't seen you causing arguments, but, maybe you should try not to take out your 'emotions' out on people on this forum? I'm not saying I've seen you argue, because I haven't, I'm just suggesting an idea.

This is an old topic that really shouldn't have even been brought back up.
The arguments, I mean. Not the topic itself (though it's kinda old too).
